lesson resources for teaching about

trade wars and tariffs

Trade wars and tariffs are in the news, and your students may have questions about what it all means.

Start the discussion with
lesson 1: Is the world a fair and just place to live? from myPITA’s Grade 6 Justice Education unit. The Grade 5, 6, and 7 Justice Education units are easy to implement, and the worksheets are available in English and French.

The following resources were collected in April 2024.

How to talk to kids about Trump, tariffs and Canadian sovereignty CBC News video 2:15

What are tariffs? CBC Kids video 3:08

You Are the Economy is a set of six lessons and activities for Grades 7-12 that explore economic and financial literacy and are designed to fit within social studies, history, geography, economics, business and career courses. The lessons Connecting Canadian industries and Tracing Canada’s Place in the World are currently relevant and are easy to implement in your classroom.

Analyzing Trump’s Approach to Tariffs is a lesson plan from the New York Times that asks, What are tariffs? How do they work? Are they good policies? We explore these questions, and others, in this lesson.

Lesson plan and printable resources for a role play activity and discussion about free trade.
