Looking Forward and Looking Back: Anticipatory and Closing Activities
|
myPITA is collecting great classroom anticipatory and closing activities to share with Grade 4–9 teachers across British Columbia. Share your favourite cross-curricular anticipatory activity that piques students' curiosity and helps them engage with a new topic or a closing activity that encourages them to reflect on what they have learned and where their learning could continue.
Example Anticipatory Activity – Mystery Bag: Place several objects related to an upcoming topic in a bag. Without revealing the topic, have students examine the objects, identify patterns and connections, and predict what they will be learning. Example Closing Activity – 3-2-1 Reflection: At the end of a lesson, students record three things they learned, two questions they still have, and one connection they made to another subject, their own experiences, or the world around them. Submit your activity in 100 words or less by June 30 to be considered for inclusion in an upcoming myPITA activity booklet! Plus, every submission is an entry to win conference registration.
