Square Pegs and Round Holes - A cross-cultural-contact role-play simulation.
Consider using Square Pegs and Round Holes, at the beginning of a unit on colonial explorers' first contact with first nations or before students travel with school groups to foreign countries. Through experiencing and debriefing the potential that cross-cultural contact has for conflict and misunderstanding, students develop their perspective consciousness and recognize the need for tolerance, acceptance, communication, and compromise when interacting with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Canada & Conflict: A Humanitarian Perspective
The Canada and Conflict: A Humanitarian Perspective (PDF) educational toolkit was designed by teachers, to inform and empower youth to take action toward alleviating human suffering. The six modules complement academic subjects and touch on issues of International Humanitarian Law such as war crimes, refugees, neglected crises, gender inequality, humanitarian principles, mechanisms for justice and youth engagement.

Due to the sensitive situations, this resource is for students ages 13 and older and should be carefully reviewed before implementing into your classroom. Forced to Fight is a choose-your-own-adventure format, this interactive site helps facilitate understanding of IHL and humanitarian issues and allows the user to experience what it is like for young people living in situations of armed conflict around the world

White Peace Poppies complement the red poppies by commemorating all victims of war, civilian and military. There are primary lesson resources related to exploring the impacts of conflict.
While similar to the White Peace Poppies resources, Peace Pledge Union offers primary and secondary resources to talk to students about remembrance, provided in a clear and concise format including cooperative games and activities linked with picture books. You may want to update the Tale of Two Poppies to include relevant Canadian information.
