Teacher jokes, fun facts and teaching resources for June:

National Blood Donor Week is June 10-16. Students learn about blood types through this blood type lesson plan and interactive game.

What do you say when two red blood cells get married?
Coagulations!

What blood type does a pessimist have?
B Negative

June is the most frequent birth month for physiology and medicine Nobel Laureates. This ready-to-go lesson plan teaches students about Alfred Nobel and the Nobel Prize.

Did you hear about the scarecrow who won the Nobel Prize?

He was outstanding in his field.

Call for Fall Conference Volunteers

Volunteering at the conference is a meaningful way to connect with colleagues, support professional learning, and help create an engaging experience for educators across the province. Whether you enjoy working behind the scenes, supporting presenters, or connecting with participants, these roles offer an opportunity to build new skills, gain conference experience, and contribute to a welcoming and successful event.

Check out our volunteer opportunities.

Conference registration opens in August!

myPITA Teaching Resources

Members-only resources

myPITA members can access exclusive resources, such as the lesson plan for Dictionary Word Art, an easily accessible art activity, and back issues of teaching-activity- and lesson-plan-packed newsletters. If you are a current member, contact Kristina at [email protected] for the password.

Resources for everyone

Connect students with nature and learn about local biodiversity and the impacts and prevention of invasive species by checking out the We Care for the Land lesson plans, created in partnership by myPITA and the Invasive Species Council of BC.

Active, outdoor lesson plans like the Invasive Species Trivia Challenge Relay and the Biodiversity Scavenger Hunt are perfect for June when the weather is nice.

Looking Forward and Looking Back: Anticipatory and Closing Activities

myPITA is collecting great classroom anticipatory and closing activities to share with Grade 4–9 teachers across British Columbia. Share your favourite cross-curricular anticipatory activity that piques students' curiosity and helps them engage with a new topic or a closing activity that encourages them to reflect on what they have learned and where their learning could continue.

Example Anticipatory Activity – Mystery Bag: Place several objects related to an upcoming topic in a bag. Without revealing the topic, have students examine the objects, identify patterns and connections, and predict what they will be learning.

Example Closing Activity – 3-2-1 Reflection: At the end of a lesson, students record three things they learned, two questions they still have, and one connection they made to another subject, their own experiences, or the world around them.

Submit your activity in 100 words or less by June 30 to be considered for inclusion in an upcoming myPITA activity booklet! Plus, every submission is an entry to win conference registration. Procrastinate on completing your report cards and submit an activity now!
